Carol and I are beginning our forty fourth year in the hospitality - tourism business. In late 1979 we decided that we would like to immigrate to Canada from Indiana and work at a fishing and hunting camp. We moved to Ontario in August of '79 and began work at a place called Shooting Star Camp on the upper Spanish River. The only access to this area at that time was via the Canadian Pacific Railway. We lived year round in a very secluded village named Metagama. It was a very exciting time in our lives much like stepping back in time one hundred years.
In 1989 we decided that it was time to utilize our 10 years experience at a different establishment. Carol and I were hired by Liddle's Fishing Adventures that summer and the following six summers as managers of Timberwolf Lodge on Nagagami Lake. We then decided to move across Nagagami Lake to Walton's Kay Vee lodge and help them establish an "American" Plan Lodge. It was a great experience to help lay the foundation of a brand new lodge and everything associated with it.
After three years with the Walton's we decided it was finally time to go it on our own. It was with the help of Roger Liddle of NORTH realty that we were able to locate the camps on Onaman Lake . Carol, I and Emily, our right hand girl, have been working hard to make Bauer's Onaman Lake Cabins and Outposts a place for everyone to enjoy. It has been the most rewarding of all our experiences because we are finally able to utilize our past experience and add our own touch, to do it our way. We have continued to stay true to our one and only occupation, we are entirely dedicated to providing our guest with a very memorable and affordable , fishing or hunting experience.
We also have a very special helper named Emily Gallagher. Emily has worked with us for over 25 years, and she is also very dedicated to making certain that our guest have a happy and memorable stay with us. She is the camp helper that is not afraid to tackle any task, and we certainly are fortunate to have such a dedicated person working with us.
